The *Sanskrit Text Society (STS)* regards institutional collaboration as fundamental to the preservation, study, and advancement of Sanskrit textual and intellectual traditions. The Society works to build sustained partnerships with universities, research institutes, libraries, manuscript repositories, cultural and governmental bodies, and traditional centres of learning. Through these collaborations, STS seeks to bring together the scholarly, institutional, and technical expertise required for the preservation, critical study, publication, and wider dissemination of Sanskrit texts and knowledge traditions.
A central focus of these partnerships is the *preservation and scholarly study of India’s manuscript and textual heritage*. By working with libraries, archives, manuscript repositories, and cultural institutions, the Society supports the identification, cataloguing, documentation, conservation, digitisation, study, and critical editing of Sanskrit manuscripts and rare textual materials. Such collaborations also enable the development of shared scholarly and technological frameworks through which important textual collections can be made more accessible to researchers while maintaining the highest standards of preservation and academic rigour.
The Society equally seeks to strengthen Sanskrit and Indological research through collaboration with universities and research institutions in India and internationally. These partnerships provide a framework for joint research projects, scholarly publications, conferences and workshops, academic exchange, training in manuscriptology and textual scholarship, and the application of emerging technologies to the study of premodern texts. STS is particularly committed to creating productive interaction between rigorous philological and historical research, traditional Sanskrit scholarship, and new approaches in the digital humanities.
Engagement with *traditional centres of Sanskrit learning, including gurukulas and āśramas*, forms another important dimension of the Society’s collaborative vision. STS recognises these institutions as living repositories of textual, commentarial, pedagogical, and oral traditions. By facilitating meaningful exchange between traditional scholars and modern academic institutions, the Society seeks to ensure that inherited modes of learning remain active participants in the contemporary study and transmission of Sanskrit knowledge.
The Society has established a growing network of institutional partnerships through *Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs)* with *Jñāna Bhāratam, Ministry of Culture, Government of India; Central Sanskrit University, India; the Bodleian Libraries, University of Oxford; The Asiatic Society, Kolkata; the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur; the Indian Council of Philosophical Research (ICPR); and the Ramakrishna Vedanta Mission. Together, these partnerships connect STS with governmental initiatives, major manuscript and library collections, learned societies, research institutions, and universities in India and internationally. **A number of further MoUs with leading academic, research, and cultural institutions across Europe, South Asia, and South-East Asia are currently under development*, further extending the Society’s international network of scholarly cooperation.
Through this expanding network, the Sanskrit Text Society aims to create a durable *international collaborative framework for Sanskrit textual scholarship*—one that brings collections, scholars, institutions, and technologies into sustained conversation. Its larger objective is not only to preserve the Sanskrit textual heritage, but to ensure that it continues to be critically studied, responsibly transmitted, published, and made accessible to future generations of scholars and readers throughout the world.
